Regional Unemployment Rate decreases to 4.2%, 1,300 Heart of Texas jobs added in February
Waco, Texas ⎯ The Heart of Texas region’s unadjusted unemployment rate decreased to 4.2% in February 2022, slightly lower than January’s 4.3% rate. Unemployment claimes also decreased by 112 since January 2022. According to the Texas Workforce Commission’s TexasLMI.com reports, the region’s economic growth continues with 1,300 new jobs added in February and 8,200 new jobs recovered since February of 2021.
February’s 4.2% unemployment rate in the six-county Heart of Texas Area was comprised of 7,345 unemployed residents. The unemployment rate for the region was below the state’s (4.7%) and above the national rate (4.1%).
McLennan County recorded the lowest unemployment rate in February within the Heart of Texas counties at 4%. Bosque and Hill Counties followed at 4.2% and Falls County at 4.4%. Limestone County’s rate was 5.5%, while Freestone County was at 6.4%.
