Heart of Texas region sees uptick in unemployment rate
Waco, Texas ⎯ TWC’s TexasLMI.com reports show the unemployment rate for the Heart of Texas region increased to 3.5% in May with a total of 712 unemployment claims, a slight uptick from April’s 3.3%. Job growth for the region continues, with an increase of 600 jobs from April. The Private Service Providing industry took the lead with 400 jobs added in May.
The 3.5% regional unemployment rate for May consisted of 6,059 unemployed residents in the Heart of Texas area. This rate sits below the state’s (3.8%) and just above the national unemployment rate (3.4%).
All six counties in the Heart of Texas region saw increases in unemployment rates. McLennan County, with the lowest unemployment rate, increased to 3.3%, followed by Bosque County (3.4%), Hill County (3.5%), Falls (3.9%), and Limestone County (4.4%). Freestone County continues to remain the highest at 5.5%.
